Kharadi, 15 February 2022: The Chairman and Secretary of Kharadi Housing Society Welfare Association (KHSWA) have written a letter to the Pune Municipal Commissioner their objections regarding the draft of ward boundaries of ward 4 that spans from Wagholi to EON IT park and ward 5 that is spread from Kharadi to Chandan Nagar for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Elections 2022. KHSWA is an association that represents over 50 societies and 20,000+ residents.

According to the association, the proposed ward boundaries will have a negative impact on civic governance and citizens. In the letter, the association has mentioned three objections that it has with the draft plans for ward 4 and ward 5. The first objection is raised because Kharadi has been split into two wards (Wagholi-EON IT Park) and (Kharadi-Chandan Nagar) in the draft, but according to the association, Kharadi has been a single ward since 2009. Hence the development will be negatively affected as budgets and proposals will now depend on decisions taken by six corporators of two separate wards.

The second objection is about the merging of Wagholi with Kharadi. Wagholi is recently merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation, it has a good curve to stabilize from PMC on basic things. The association stated it does not want to share funds of Kharadi with Wagholi.

The last objection raises the issue of inconvenience that will be caused to the citizens because of different ward offices. Currently, Kharadi is under Nagar Road-Ramwadi ward office located near Viman Nagar, with proposed ward boundaries, half of the Kharadi area citizens may have to approach another ward office for the resolution of grievances.

The association has suggested that Lohegaon and Wagholi should be merged together and let Kharadi be one single ward.
