Pune: Koregaon Park Pub Manager Booked for Operating Past 1:30 AM Closing Time

Pune, 30th December 2024: The Koregaon Park police have filed a case against the manager and staff of a popular pub in Koregaon Park for violating the mandatory closing time by operating beyond the permitted 1:30 AM limit on Friday night.
Upon visiting the establishment, police discovered that the pub’s DJ system was still active, and staff members were continuing to serve food and drinks to customers.
Sub-Inspector Shrikant Chavan of Koregaon Park police explained, “The pub had organized a special event and promoted it on social media. The event, however, was conducted without the necessary permission, and the party continued well past the legal closing time.”
He continued, “After receiving information about the ongoing event, we arrived at the pub and observed loud music playing. We also found that staff were still serving customers food and beverages. We intervened immediately, shut down the event, and confiscated the DJ system and other equipment from the venue.”
Further investigation revealed that the pub had been violating the closing time regulations not only on the night of the incident but also on previous occasions, with CCTV footage showing similar violations between December 21 and 24.
“We have seized the pub’s registers and are conducting a thorough investigation,” Sub-Inspector Chavan added. “Depending on the findings, we will determine the appropriate next steps.”
This action follows a crackdown by the city police on establishments that disregard closing time rules. The move gained momentum after a fatal accident involving a Porsche in Kalyaninagar in May, in which two young IT professionals lost their lives. Since then, authorities have been intensifying efforts to target pubs that operate past closing time and serve alcohol to underage patrons.
