Shivajinagar, 18th December 2024: Pune’s famous Jangali Maharaj Road (JM Road) has developed a sinkhole, which is surprising as the road is known for being pothole-free. A couple of years ago, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) spent crores to repair the road, but now a large sinkhole has formed due to the drainage system collapsing underneath.

The PMC had built a rainwater drain on JM Road two years ago for Rs 4.5 crore, but it has now collapsed, leaving a huge hole in the road. The PMC Road Department inspected the site and found that the surrounding land had sunk by more than five feet. As a result, the road was immediately closed, and repair work was initiated.

The pothole has appeared in front of Shubham Pure Veg Restaurant on JM Road. A road repair vehicle from the PMC Road Department quickly arrived at the location. When workers dug around the pothole, they discovered that the rainwater drain had collapsed from inside. The area was barricaded and closed to traffic, and repair work began immediately.

Pothole Causes Heavy Traffic

Many people use JM Road daily, as it connects key areas in Shivajinagar, including Deccan, Fergusson College Road (FC Road), and the PMC Building, and serves as a route to Kothrud, Swargate, and other important locations. The road is also home to many famous restaurants, hotels, and offices, making it a heavily travelled route. Hence, the appearance of this pothole has created a bottleneck, leading to increased traffic congestion in the area.
