Shivajinagar, 2nd May 2025: A first-year law student from Pune’s Navalmal Firodia Law College (NFLC) was found dead in Fergusson College Hostel this morning, raising serious concerns over academic stress and mental health among students. The deceased, identified as Bhushan Domane, hailed from Wardha district in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region.
According to Police Reports, the incident came to light around 10 am when Bhushan’s friend knocked on his hostel room door before an exam but received no response. Hostel staff broke open the door and found Bhushan unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Senior Police Inspector Girija Nimbalkar confirmed the discovery of open pill strips in the room. “The pills have been sent for chemical analysis. We are awaiting the post-mortem report from Sassoon General Hospital,” she told Punekar News.
Sources close to the investigation said Domane appeared withdrawn in recent months, with a noticeable drop in attendance compared to his earlier academic record. Exams are currently underway at NFLC, and Bhushan was reportedly under significant academic pressure.
NFLC Principal Sunita Adhav expressed shock, stating, “He was a bright student with strong first-semester grades. We will investigate this matter thoroughly.”
Police have informed the family and continue to probe the circumstances around the death.
