Pune, 27th April 2026: Most parts of Pune recorded maximum temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday, reflecting the sharp rise in heat across the city. Several areas like Lohegaon and Koregaon Park even recorded 43 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD, Shivajinagar registered 41.8 degrees Celsius, while Vadgaon Sheri and Chinchwad recorded 41.2 degrees Celsius each. Hadapsar logged 40.3 degrees Celsius, Pashan 40.1 degrees Celsius, Balewadi 40.3 degrees Celsius, and Magarpatta 40.9 degrees Celsius. The mercury rose further in Lohegaon at 42.7 degrees Celsius, while Koregaon Park touched 42.9 degrees Celsius.

Akola emerged as the hottest place in Maharashtra — and the country — with a scorching 46.9 degrees Celsius as severe heat conditions gripped several parts of the state. The Akola reading was the highest recorded anywhere in India on Sunday. Three Maharashtra cities featured among the five hottest places in the country. Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded 46.6 degrees Celsius, while Barmer in Rajasthan logged 46.4 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures crossed the 40-degree mark in 22 cities across Maharashtra, with Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of central Maharashtra facing the worst of the heat. Amravati recorded 46.8 degrees Celsius, while Wardha registered 46.4 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions in parts of Vidarbha on Monday and issued an orange alert for Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts. A yellow alert has also been issued for Bhandara, Chandrapur and Nagpur. Temperatures are expected to gradually fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius after Monday.

For Pune, the IMD has predicted a slight dip in temperature on Monday, with the maximum likely to be around 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 22 degrees Celsius.

In Pune, residents experienced harsh afternoon conditions and warmer nights as minimum temperatures have also increased over the past few days. Although some areas received rain and hail last week, fluctuating weather patterns have once again pushed temperatures higher.

Meteorologists said Maharashtra is currently witnessing contrasting weather conditions, with heat alerts in some regions and chances of rainfall in others. A western disturbance over north India, a wind discontinuity stretching from north Karnataka to Kanyakumari, and cyclonic circulations over parts of central and eastern India are influencing weather patterns across the state.
