Pune: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Stresses Youth Empowerment at Bharati Vidyapeeth Convocation

Pune, 28th February 2025: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday underscored the vital role of youth in shaping India’s future, stating that young minds must be equipped to navigate challenges and seize emerging opportunities.

Speaking at the 26th convocation ceremony of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Birla highlighted the significance of India’s cultural ethos and democratic values. “India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) is our strength. The youth will encounter both challenges and opportunities, and it is their responsibility to contribute to the nation’s progress,” he remarked.

During the ceremony, degrees were conferred upon more than 6,800 graduates, while 71 students received doctorate degrees. Additionally, 42 meritorious students were awarded gold medals for securing the highest marks in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Birla emphasized that education plays a crucial role in fostering equality and brotherhood. “Education instills confidence and helps in overcoming crises. It is through perseverance and determination that success can be achieved. The youth must continue striving to fulfill their dreams while strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation,” he added.

The event was presided over by Chancellor Shivajirao Kadam and attended by Vice-Chancellor Vivek Saoji, Pro-VC Vishwajeet Kadam, and Registrar G. Jayakumar. Highlighting the university’s commitment to research and innovation, Saoji noted, “The university has received grants exceeding ₹15 crore from various institutions for research. Over the past year, ₹2.5 crore was invested in research initiatives.
Additionally, 18 startups have been launched in the last five years, with three new startups introduced this year.”

The convocation marked a significant milestone for the university, celebrating academic achievements and encouraging graduates to contribute meaningfully to society.
