Lonavala, 24th August 2025: In a two-day drive, the Lonavala city police penalized 220 vehicles for obstructing traffic in the busy market area and collected fines amounting to Rs 1,81,700.

The action comes as part of ongoing efforts by the traffic department to ease congestion in the market stretch, which often witnesses heavy vehicular movement and haphazard parking. Police have been implementing various measures to streamline traffic, including experimental changes in the system.

Recently, plastic road dividers were installed between Jaichand Chowk and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Putla Chowk on a trial basis. However, they were later removed following complaints from citizens. Meanwhile, awareness campaigns are also being conducted to encourage residents and tourists to follow traffic rules.

Despite these measures, several motorists were found flouting norms. Vehicles parked illegally and causing obstruction were penalized during the drive. Police said the crackdown will continue as part of routine enforcement.

Lonavala City Police Inspector Rajesh Ramaghare appealed to citizens to follow traffic discipline. “We are taking consistent action against violators. Citizens should cooperate with the police by following traffic rules to ensure smooth movement in the market area,” he said.
