Pune: Lonavala Rural Assistant Police Inspector Accused Of Demanding Rs 1.4 Lakh In Bribes

Lonavala, 6th October 2023: Assistant Police Inspector Devidas Hiraman Karande of Lonavla Rural Police Station, Pune Rural, has been accused of demanding bribes from a 38-year-old female complainant. An FIR has been registered against Karande under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The complainant had a case registered against her in August 2022 at Lonavla Rural Police Station. Karande, who was investigating the case, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant to provide a favorable final report on the said crime.

Upon verification of the complainant’s allegations, it was discovered that Karande had not only demanded Rs. 40,000 from the complainant but also sought an additional Rs. 1,00,000 from a co-accused in the case. The verification took place on September 23 and September 26, 2023, leading to the registration of the FIR on October 6, 2023, at 5.47 PM.

Karande now faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
