Pune: Lonavala Schools Declared Shut on August 20 and 21 Amid Heavy Rainfall, IMD Red Alert
Lonavala, 19th August 2025: In view of the ongoing heavy rainfall in Lonavala and adjoining ghat areas, the Lonavala Municipal Council has declared holidays for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools on Wednesday (August 20) and Thursday (August 21).
The decision has been taken considering the continuous downpour, rising water levels on several roads, and a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the region. The alert warns of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next three days in the ghat belts of Pune, Raigad, Satara, Thane, and Kolhapur.
Municipal Chief Officer Ashok Sable said the move was necessary to ensure student safety and prevent any untoward incidents. Schools have been instructed to safeguard all records and property during the closure. The administration has also clarified that missed academic activities during the holidays should be compensated on later dates.
The municipal council has appealed to parents, teachers, and staff to remain alert and prioritize safety amid the prevailing weather conditions.
