Pune: Mahalunge Residents Protest Against 10-Year Delay in Hi-Tech City Town Planning Scheme
Mahalunge, 5th October 2025: Residents of Mahalunge staged a large protest today against the prolonged delay in the Mahalunge Maan Hi-Tech City town planning scheme, which has remained stalled for over a decade.
Citizens gathered at Kul-Ecoloch Society, VTP Alpine Chowk, in front of Godrej Hillside 1 Society, demanding immediate action and justice for farmers whose land has been in limbo.
The protest was led by Jayesh Sanjay Murkute, who criticised the lack of coordination between Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Public Works Department (PWD), and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
“Development work has been stalled for years. This scheme should be implemented immediately with the involvement of residents, or it should be cancelled altogether. Today’s protest is only the first step. We will continue to raise our voices until these issues are resolved,” Murkute said.
Residents highlighted that basic civic facilities such as proper roads, traffic management, water supply, and waste disposal systems remain inadequate, causing accidents, health concerns, and daily hardships.
“The Town Planning Scheme announced in 2017 is still pending, leaving thousands of families uncertain about their land, housing, and access to basic amenities. Promises of a ‘hi-tech city’ have not materialised, and residents are forced to live with constant stress and insecurity,” Murkute added.
The protesters also accused builders’ lobbies of benefiting from the delays, while farmers and ordinary residents continue to suffer. “This is no longer just an inconvenience; it has become a matter of safety, dignity, and justice for our community,” Murkute said.
Residents have vowed to continue their campaign until the scheme is implemented or formally resolved.
