Pune: Maharashtra Board Retracts Decision To Display Caste Category On Admit Cards; Students To Receive Revised Admit Cards

Pune, 21st January 2025: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has reversed its controversial decision to display students’ caste categories on class 10 and class 12 admit cards. This move follows widespread criticism from education experts, teachers, and other stakeholders. The Board has now confirmed that revised admit cards, free of caste-related details, will be issued for the upcoming board examinations.
The controversy erupted after admit cards for class 10 examinations featured the caste category of students, raising questions about the necessity and appropriateness of such a measure. Critics argued that it was irrelevant to the examination process and could lead to discrimination or unnecessary distress for students. Facing backlash, the Board expressed regret over its decision and promptly rectified it.
Revised hall tickets for class 10 students are now being issued, and class 12 students will also receive updated cards ahead of their exams. The class 12 (HSC) exams are scheduled to begin on 11th February, while the class 10 (SSC) exams will commence on 21st February.
In a separate initiative, the Board has launched a “Copy-Free Campaign” to ensure a fair and transparent examination process. From 20th January to 26th January, schools and colleges across the state are observing an awareness week. As part of the campaign, students will take a pledge to refrain from malpractice during exams.
School and college principals are also tasked with guiding students on the consequences of cheating, while institutions will organize activities, including awareness marches with “Copy-Free” slogans, to reinforce the message. This initiative builds on the success of last year’s efforts to uphold academic integrity in board examinations.
