Pune: Maharashtra Government Approves Elevated Flyover from Viman Nagar to Kharadi to Ease Traffic Congestion

Kharadi, 26th April 2025: The Maharashtra State Government has officially approved the construction of a double-decker elevated flyover between Phoenix Market City in Viman Nagar and Kharadi on Pune-Ahilyanagar Highway to address severe traffic congestion in the area. The decision, announced on 25th April, includes the previously excluded five-kilometre stretch from Phoenix Market City to Kharadi Jakat Naka, ensuring a seamless elevated corridor that will significantly improve traffic flow.
Vadgaonsheri MLA Bapusaheb Pathare highlighted his persistent efforts to reinstate the Phoenix Market City to the Kharadi Jakat Naka stretch into the project. Pathare said, “Rapid urbanisation and increasing traffic congestion made it crucial to include this five-kilometre segment in the elevated flyover. After continuous follow-ups with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, the state government’s recent approval is a major win for our constituency and citizens.” He also acknowledged the support of key political leaders and officials who contributed to this outcome.
Meanwhile, former Vadgaonsheri MLA Sunil Tingre also welcomed the move, stating, “To permanently resolve traffic congestion on Ahilyanagar Road, the elevated flyover from Wagholi to Shirur via Phoenix Market City is essential. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s orders on this will effectively address the traffic issues on Nagar Road.” Tingre emphasised the importance of integrating this section into the broader elevated highway project for lasting relief.
The project, managed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), aims to construct a nearly four-kilometre elevated corridor within Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, complementing the larger Pune-Shirur elevated highway. This infrastructure development is expected to reduce travel time, alleviate bottlenecks at critical junctions, and support the region’s growing urban population.
