Pune, January 8, 2021: The Maharashtra state government on Wednesday approved the land acquisition of the western part for a ring road project undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to ease traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Therefore, it is believed that the first phase of the 68 km long ring road between Varve Budruk (Tal. Bhor) to Urse (Tal. Maval) is considered to be an important decision.

Through MSRDC, the ring road will be developed in two parts, East and West. In the first phase, the ring road will pass through Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Haveli, Purandar and Bhor talukas in the western part.

Accordingly, the government has appointed the concerned officer to acquire land for the ring road. The Pune Divisional Commissioner has been appointed as an arbitrator to settle land acquisition disputes. The objections of the citizens regarding the ring road can be submitted to the authorities. The total length of the proposed ring road is about 172 km and it is 110 m wide, 2300 hectares of land will be required and the expected cost of the project is around Rs 14,000 crore.

A space of 30 meters width has been reserved in the middle of this ring road. In the first phase, a 60-meter wide ring road will be constructed. And the width can be increased if needed in future. MSRDC has decided to develop it in two phases. In a meeting, last month Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had directed MSRDC to start the process of land acquisition for the ring road. Since then, the process of land acquisition has gained momentum and now a notification has been issued.
