Pune, 22nd April 2026: The long-delayed Katraj-Kondhwa road widening project has received a major push after the Maharashtra government approved the draft land acquisition award for the stretch, clearing a key hurdle that had stalled the project for nearly eight years.

Revenue Department orders in this regard were issued on Tuesday, paving the way for acquisition of land required for the widening of the crucial arterial road up to Pisoli. The development is being seen as a significant breakthrough following a sustained follow-up by Pune Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure with Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.

According to the government order, a total of 41,517.78 square metres of land will be acquired for the proposed 50-metre-wide road between Rajas Society in Katraj and Pisoli, which falls within the 84 Meter development plan road alignment.

The proposal submitted by the Special Land Acquisition Officer has been approved under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, subject to prescribed terms and conditions.

The Katraj-Kondhwa road has long been plagued by severe traffic congestion and frequent accidents, with residents repeatedly demanding early completion of the widening project.

Officials said Mayor Nagpure took up the matter with the Revenue Minister after assuming office, stressing the urgency of clearing the pending proposal. Following her representation, the department expedited the administrative process and granted approval.

“The Katraj-Kondhwa road is directly linked to the daily lives and safety of citizens in the area. We informed the Revenue Minister about the seriousness of the situation, and he approved the proposal in public interest. I sincerely thank Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule for this decision,” Nagpure said.
