Pune, 12th February 2025: A joint operation by Bund Garden Police and Southern Command Military Intelligence in Pune has led to the arrest of Mohit Ram Singh Dhami, a civilian accused of running a fake army recruitment racket. Dhami was apprehended near Pune Railway Station yesterday at approximately 8:30 PM.

The arrest came following a complaint filed by Ravindra Janardan Bilade, a 23-year-old resident of Dhule, who alleged that Dhami had duped him and his friend of Rs 4.80 crore. The incident occurred on 31st March 2024, when Bilade and his friend were in Pune for a government job recruitment exam.

According to the complaint, Dhami approached the victims, claiming to work at the Southern Command Hospital. He promised to secure their selection in the army, despite their age being above the limit. Over the following days, Dhami collected their documents and money, with Bilade sending Rs 2.80 lakh and his friend sending Rs 2 lakh.

The scam wasn’t limited to these individuals but targeted candidates from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Maharashtra. Dhami allegedly charged each candidate Rs. 2 lakh for fake army recruitment.

Bund Garden Police have registered a case against Dhami under Sections 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with cheating by personation and cheating with dishonest inducement, respectively.

The Southern Command Military Intelligence Pune shared specific information about Dhami’s involvement in the fake recruitment racket with Bund Garden Police on 12th February 2024. Following verification, the joint team apprehended the accused yesterday.

Authorities are conducting joint questioning of the accused at Bund Garden Police Station to ascertain further details of the scam.
