Pune: Man Arrested For Demanding Money For Catching Wild Animals

Pune, 14th December 2022: A man has been arrested for illegally setting up a cage to catch Viverridae without taking permission from Forest Department and demanding Rs three thousand.

 

On behalf of the Forest Department, to capture the Viverridae, a wild animal protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, the accused Saidas Shankar Kusal created a fake letterhead of the Wildlife Welfare Association without taking permission from the Forest Department. Reportedly, Kusal Demanded the cage amount of Rs three thousand from a private company.

 

“There is no charge for wildlife rescue. If money is demanded from an unaccredited rescue organization, it is appealed to contact the Forest Department immediately. Also, citizens should not panic if wild animals are found in their area”, said Rahul Patil, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune.

 

He has appealed to contact the nearest Forest Department official or the forest area office or the toll-free number 1926 of the Forest Department.
