Pune : Man Duped Of Rs 4.75 Lakh By Cyber Fraudsters To Clear Name From ED Case

Pune 5th August 2023: A 27-year-old man from Wakad has lodged a complaint with police regarding two unidentified people for allegedly duping him for Rs 4.75 Lakh in the name of clearing name in a case linked to Enforcement Directorate (ED). A case in this regard has been registered at Wakad Police Station.

According to the complainant, a person identified himself as Shivam Sharma called him at around 10:30 am on Monday. The caller claimed that the complainant has sent a parcel to Taiwan and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating the matter. The accused handed over the call to another person who claimed to be his senior. The other person claimed that some illegal transactions have occurred from the bank accounts linked to the complainant and ED officials are conducting investigations into it.

The accused asked him to pay money to clear his name from the case. Accordingly, the accused transferred a total of Rs 4,74,531 in three different transactions. However, soon the complainant realised that he had been duped and he approached police to lodge a complaint in the matter. The police have booked two unidentified people under sections 420 and 419 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with section 66 (c) (d) of the Information Technology Act. Further investigation in the matter is underway.
