Pune: Man Hangs On Crane To Rescue Towed Vehicle, Viral Video Sparks Awareness, Pays Fine And Apologizes
Wagholi, 13th December 2024: A bizarre incident unfolded in Wagholi when a young man, in a desperate bid to free his vehicle, clung to the belt of a towing crane as it was lifting his two-wheeler. A video of the dramatic moment went viral on social media, drawing widespread attention.
The incident occurred two days ago when Tanaji Shinde, a farmer from Shrigonda, had parked his vehicle in a no-parking zone outside a hotel where he had stopped for breakfast. While his vehicle was being loaded onto the crane, Tanaji rushed out and attempted to intervene by hanging on the towing belt. His actions were captured on video, which quickly spread across social media platforms.
Following the incident, Tanaji was summoned by the Traffic Police and made aware of his mistake. He admitted his fault, paid the fine, and submitted a written apology.
Assistant Police Inspector (Traffic), Gajanan Jadhav, provided further details: “Before lifting vehicles, we make announcements on loudspeakers. Despite this, the individual in question remained inside the hotel until the towing process began. Instead of approaching the Traffic Branch office, which is just 100 steps away, he resorted to such an act.”
Jadhav also expressed concerns over the negative impact such viral videos have on police morale. “These videos often portray the police in a bad light. We deal with 40 to 50 citizens daily, many of whom are unwilling to accept their mistakes. The blame is not always on the traffic police,” he said.

In addition, local hoteliers have been instructed not to allow customers to park in no-parking zones. This measure aims to curb similar incidents in the future and ensure smoother traffic management in the area.
