Pune: Man Kills Bedridden Father After COVID-19 Test, Keeps Body At Home For Two Days

Uruli Kanchan, 10th June 2021: In a shocking incident, a drunk man killed his bedridden father by strangulation and then slitting his throat in the Uruli Kanchan area and kept the body at home for two days. Before the murder, the arrested accused had got his father tested for coronavirus (COVID-19). However, the test result came out negative.

The accused told Pune city police that he killed his father ‘to rid him of his suffering.’

The deceased has been identified as Rahim Gulab Shaikh (67), a resident of Tupevasti in Uruli Kanchan in Haveli taluka. Loni Kalbhor police station officials have arrested his son Nayeem Rahim Shaikh (35).

According to police, Rahim had been bedridden due to an illness. Nayeem does not work and roams around after drinking liquor. His sister works as a housemaid to support the family. About seven years ago, Nayeem had assaulted his wife with a blade following which, she had started living at her mother’s place.

“On Tuesday night, Nayeem strangulated his father. To make sure that he had died, Nayeem slit his throat with a blade. He threatened his sister not to tell anyone about the incident. Meanwhile, Rahim’s COVID-19 test result came negative on Wednesday. Today, Nayeem informed his relatives, including his wife, about the death of his father. He was taking the body to the cemetery around 3.30 pm when the murder came into light,” Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi told Punekar News.

Police officials said that Nayeem’s wife saw the injury marks on the deceased’s neck and questioned his sister who confided about the murder. They later reported the incident to the police.

“We have arrested Nayeem. During questioning, he told us that he killed his father to rid him of his suffering. His father was bedridden due to an illness for a long time. He had gotten his father tested for COVID-19 but the result came out negative. We are investigating the case further,” Inspector Mokashi said.
