Pune: Man Poses As Army Officer To Dupe Youths At Recruitment Rally In Nashik, Caught On Input From Southern Command Military Intelligence

Pune, 28th December 2021: A man was caught today in Nashik for impersonating a Major rank officer to cheat candidates at an open recruitment rally. He had collected documents and taken lakhs of rupees from some candidates.
The action was taken based on a tip-off from the Pune-based Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Indian Army’s Southern Command.
According to officials, information was received about recruitment agents duping candidates on the pretext of getting them recruited into the army in the ongoing recruitment rally at Artillery Centre, Nashik. The input was passed on to the security team at Devlali cantonment and the accused Ganesh Walu Pawar, a resident of Harsul in Chandwa taluka of Nashik district, Maharashtra, was apprehended.
Pawar was dressed in combat uniform with ranks of Major and was using a Maruti Ertiga to move around the cantonment. He has been handed over to Nashik police and an FIR has been registered at Devlali Camp police station.
“Pawar had pretended to be a serving army officer and collected documents of some of the candidates participating in the recruitment rally and promised to get them recruited. He moved around with his driver Nilesh Chhabu Khaire who had allegedly paid him Rs three lakhs for getting a job as a civil defence employee in the armed forces”, an officer said.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had taken Rs 15 lakh from some candidates. He had also procured a loan of Rs 39 lakhs from a bank for the construction of a house in his village, based on fake Army documents.
The officials have seized his military uniforms, character certificate and serving certificate made using a fake stamp of station headquarters, Devlali.
Police are conducting further investigation into the case.
