Bhawani Peth, 25th May 2023: A massive fire erupted at a timber godown located in the bustling Timber Market, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. As the flames spread rapidly, four neighboring houses were engulfed by the inferno.


The incident was reported to the fire brigade at 4.14 am. The fire erupted at timber godown at 259, Bhawani Peth near R Ramoshigate.


However, thanks to the swift response of the authorities, the fire was prevented from spreading further, potentially saving a nearby settlement and a neighboring school from the catastrophe. Their quick action included the removal of approximately 10 gas cylinders, which posed a significant threat to the area.


No injuries or fatalities have been reported thus far, as the firefighters acted swiftly to ensure the safety of the affected area. The heroic efforts of Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potfode, accompanied by 20 other officers and approximately 100 personnel, have been commendable in tackling the devastating blaze.


To combat the raging fire, a total of around 30 fire tenders and private water tankers from various firefighting departments, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Cantonment, PMRDA, and Pimpri-Chinchwad fire brigade, have been deployed at the spot. These firefighters are working relentlessly to bring the situation under control and extinguish the fire completely.


Eyewitnesses reported billowing smoke and towering flames, which could be seen from a considerable distance. The fire has caused extensive damage to the timber godown and the four neighboring houses, reducing them to charred remains.


Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage. The immediate priority remains extinguishing the flames and ensuring the safety of nearby structures. Efforts are also underway to provide assistance and support to the affected families in their time of need.
