Pune: Mastermind Behind Rs 47 Lakh Robbery Arrested by Samarth Police

Pune, 29th March 2023: The officials from Samarth police station today announced the arrest of the mastermind behind a daring robbery that occurred on March 23rd at Azad Chowk in Nana Peth. The accused, Rishikesh Gaikwad, along with accomplices Kiran Pawar and Akash Gorakh, threatened a trader with choppers and robbed him of Rs 47 lakh.
Mangal Puri Bikam Puri Goswami, a resident of Mangalwar Peth, reported the incident to the police.
“The Samarth police conducted a thorough investigation of the crime, checking over 500 CCTV cameras in the area, which led to the arrest of the accused. We have recovered the two-wheeler used in the crime as well as Rs 25 lakh cash till now from the accused”, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill.
Ramesh Sathe, Senior Police Inspector in-charge of Samarth police station, stated that Gaikwad had worked as a salesman at Panna Agency Gord India Limited, selling cigarettes since 2019. Following a fight, he was fired in 2022, after which he devised a plan to rob the agency, which deposits between 20 to 25 lakhs daily. Gaikwad knew the exact time the complainant would go to the bank to deposit the cash and planned the robbery accordingly.
Police have arrested the mastermind Rishikesh Gaikwad (24), while his accomplices Kiran Ashok Pawar (27) and Akash Kapil Gord (21), are on the run. All are residents of Bibvewadi.
According to ACP Satish Govekar, Gaikwad knew the daily cash collection routine of the agency, including the time the complainant would go to the bank to deposit the cash.
The police report stated that around 11:30 am on March 23 when the complainant was going to deposit the cash, two men on a motorcycle intercepted him at Azad Chowk and threatened him with choppers before making off with the cash. After the incident was reported, the police began searching for the accused. Assistant Police Inspector Prasad Lonare from the detection branch led the investigation team.
The investigation involved officers from several police stations, who conducted a technical analysis of the crime scene and the direction in which the suspects escaped. After tracing the scooter used by the suspects to RTO Pune, the police arrested the autorickshaw driver who had transported them to the crime scene. After a week’s investigation, all the accused have been arrested.
