Pune, 17th March 2021: As Pune city is gaining the reputation of having the highest number of Coronavirus disease (COVID19) cases in the country, Pune mayor Murlidhar Mohol has demanded to speed up the vaccination programme in the city.

Mohol said that the city has some 900 small and big, private and government hospitals. “If we start the inoculation there, then we can inoculate some 30,000 Puneites in one day; which means that within two months we can cover the entire vaccination programme”, he said.

He was talking to the media persons on the backdrop of rising Covid-19 cases, shortage of vaccine doses and other issues.  “Pune city has a huge population and thus the high number of cases can be seen. Residents must take care and should follow all the Covid-19 guidelines. There are 4,200 beds available for Corona patients in the city”, he informed, adding that two thousand beds are currently vacant.

He also said that though there is a surge in the number of cases, the intensity of it is less and many patients are showing mild symptoms.
Similarly, people want to be home isolated instead of getting admitted to hospitals, he informed.

He also said that PMC is considering the renewal of the contract done with the private hospitals for treating Corona patients.
