Pune : Men Pretending To Be MSEDCL Staff Dupe People On Pretext Of Changing Electricity Meters, Case Registered

Chakan 18th Sept 2023: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited (MSEDCL) has lodged a complaint with police against four people for allegedly duping the consumers of MSEDCL on pretext of changing the electricity meters. The MSEDCL officials had received complaints about a gang allegedly illegally replacing electricity meters of people.

The officials had started investigating the matter and came across several meters in Nanekarwadi, Ambethan Road and Manik Chowk area in Chakan which were replaced by the accused; they had no entry at the MSEDCL office and the old meters were also not returned. The MSEDCL officials, during further investigation, reached out to one of the accused involved in the ring Dayanand Pattekar who was associated with a computer agency.

It was revealed that Pattekar and three others had replaced several electricity meters in the area in August month by pretending to be MSEDCl staff. They had informed the consumers that the current electricity meters installed at their houses were working slow due to which they were getting more electricity bills. They assured to solve the problem by replacing the meters and took money against it.

The MSEDCL has suffered a loss of 1,22,277 units worth Rs 13,28,270 due to replacement of three electricity meters by the accused. The officials have lodged a complaint against Dayanand Pattekar and three unidentified people in the matter under relevant sections.

“The consumers are appealed not to respond to people who assure them to display reduced usage on the meter, to make changes in the meter for collective use, to decrease the amount on the electricity bill, etc. by pretending to be MSEDCL staff. They should not pay money to any individual for such work and if anyone comes across such people, a complaint should be submitted to the MSEDCL” said Chief Engineer of MSEDCL Rajendra Pawar.
