Pune, 11th August 2022: The work of the flyover at Acharya Anandrishiji Maharaj Chowk (Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth Chowk) is set to begin with the work of the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro.

The construction will increase traffic congestion in these areas significantly. Therefore, in a meeting, it was decided that the new guardian minister of the Pune district should be shown how the flyover and subway (grade separator) will be constructed and work should begin only after his consent. The city now awaits the announcement regarding the new guardian minister of Pune in the new government.

A joint meeting of various departments of Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and Traffic Police was held yesterday to review the ongoing metro and other works on Ganeshkhind road. Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, PMRDA Commissioner Suhas Diwase, PMC Additional Commissioner Dr Kunal Khemnar, and other officers were present.

The Pune University flyover and subway will be constructed to break the traffic jam at Vidyapeeth Chowk. Metro work will also take place at this square shortly. For traffic on Ganeshkhind road, the Municipal Corporation has prepared a plan of Rs 400 crores, but this work will be done by PMRDA. The work includes a double-decker flyover at Vidyapeeth Chowk (268 crores), Shivajinagar-Aundh subway (68 crores), two lanes for Baner-Pashan (25 crores,) Hare Krishna Temple subway (15 crores), Abhimanashree chowk subway (40 crores), and others.

The metro work will be completed by PMRD in the next three years, hence completing these projects on Ganeshkhind road in the same period. It was decided, in the meeting called today, to begin this work. After the work begins, traffic congestion will increase on Ganeshkhind road. Planning is necessary to start alternative traffic routes. Pedestrian paths and cycle paths will have to be constructed too. Therefore, a decision was taken in the meeting to start the work at Vidyapeeth Chowk and other places only after the new Guardian Minister of Pune has been decided, the officials informed.

Suggestions for reducing the dilemma:

– Use less space for barricading the metro to reduce traffic congestion

– Remove the barricading from the place where the work has been completed and open the road

– Shorten pedestrian path and cycle path on Ganesh Khind road

– Fill the potholes on the road properly

– Immediately remove other service ducts, including water ducts, obstructing the work

– Right turn from Pune Central Mall while going towards Shivajinagar will be prohibited

– You can go to the desired place by taking a U-turn from under the flyover at the Agriculture College.

– Widening the road by occupying the sites of Raj Bhavan, NIC, and other places
