Pune Metro Completes Three Successful Years of Operations
Pune, 6th March 2025: Pune Metro celebrates its third anniversary, marking a significant milestone in transforming urban mobility in Pune. Since its inaugural run on 6th March 2022, Pune Metro has expanded its network, enhancing connectivity and providing a fast, efficient, and eco-friendly transit option for the citizens of Pune.
The Pune Metro project, inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 6th March 2022, commenced its operations with two initial routes: PCMC to Phugewadi and Vanaz to Garware College. Over the years, the metro network has progressively expanded as per the following timeline:

When Pune Metro first began operations, the average monthly ridership was 1,26,339 from March 2022 to July 2023. With the opening of sections from Phugewadi to District Court and Garware College to Ruby Hall Clinic on 1st August 2023, the average monthly ridership increased significantly to 17,6,0010.
The extension from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi further boosted average monthly ridership to 28,28,259. The most recent addition of the District Court to Swargate section on 29th September 2024 boosted the total ridership from 6th March 2022 to 5th March 2025 to 59,876,743. The revenue collected so far is ₹93,00,04,268 from 6th March 2022 to 5th March 2025.

The daily average ridership of Pune Metro is approximately 160,000. Pune Metro offers fast, air-conditioned travel that is not only comfortable but also ensures high safety standards with CCTV surveillance, panic buttons inside coaches, well-lit station areas, baggage scanning, and proactive staff assistance for commuters.
To further enhance urban mobility in Pune, several metro expansion projects are underway, aimed at improving connectivity and reaching more areas to serve the city’s growing population. Under Phase-1 & Extensions, the PCMC to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi corridors (33.1 km) are already operational, while the PCMC to Nigdi section is currently under construction. Meanwhile, the Swargate to Katraj extension (5.5 km) is in the tendering process. In Phase-2, key developments include:
- Vanaz to Chandani Chowk (1.12 km, 2 stations)
- Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (11.63 km, 11 stations)
- Khadakwasla-Swargate-Hadapsar-Kharadi (25.51 km, 22 stations)
- Nal Stop to Warje-Manik Baug (6.12 km, 6 stations)
- Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor (11.35 km, 10 stations) & Hadapsar-Saswad Road (5.57, 4 stations)
Approval awaiting final approval from Government of India.
On this occasion, MD of Maha Metro stated, “Pune Metro has played a crucial role in making available a safe, fast, comfortable, reliable, and sustainable urban transport in Pune City. Our extensions and Phase II will bring more city parts on metro network.”
