Pune Metro Expands Further: Tender Process Commences for PCMC to Nigdi Route

Pune, 19th December 2023: In a significant development for Pune’s metro network, the tender process for the extended route from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi has officially commenced. The Pune Metro’s first phase, encompassing Route 1 and Route 2, has already begun passenger services, covering a total of 24 km. With the completion of the remaining 9 km line imminent, the entire first-phase route is expected to be operational soon.

Mahametro, the implementing agency for Pune Metro, has released the tender for the expansion of the route from PCMC to Nigdi (Bhaktishakti Chowk). This extension holds significance for passengers traveling from Swargate to Pimpri Chinchwad on Route 1.

The approval for the extended route from PCMC to Nigdi (Bhaktishakti Chowk) was granted by the Central Government on 23/10/2023. The total length of this route spans 4.519 km, with a project cost of Rs 910.18 crores. The tender specifically focuses on the viaduct work for this route, and Mahametro aims to complete the entire extension within 3 years and 3 months.

The construction timeline mandates completion within 130 weeks from the receipt of the approval letter. The elevated route will have four stations, namely Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhaktishakti Chowk. Distances between these stations include 1.463 km from PCMC to Chinchwad Station, 1.651 km from Chinchwad Station to Akurdi Station, 1.062 km from Akurdi Station to Nigdi Station, and 975 meters from Nigdi Station to Bhakti Shakti Chowk Station.

To expedite the construction process, contractors will also work on the concourse and platform slabs of the stations, aiming to save construction time.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Mahametro, expressed the significance of the extended route, stating, “Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhaktishakti Chowk sections will be connected to the metro network, benefiting thousands of citizens in the area.”
