Pimpri Chinchwad, 19th December 2023: In a proactive move to address the rising issue of juvenile delinquency, the Pimpri Chinchwad police have embarked on the “One Day for School” initiative. This program involves police officers visiting schools to educate students on crucial topics such as cybercrime, social media ethics, drug addiction, and women’s dignity. The initiative aims to impart knowledge and instill moral values in students, promoting awareness of legal implications at an early age.

Juvenile offenders present a unique challenge for law enforcement, as they are protected under specific legal provisions. Recognizing the complexity of dealing with juvenile delinquency, the police have taken steps to counsel children in slums and collaborate with organizations like the Disha Foundation to create employment opportunities for them. The objective is to integrate these children into mainstream society.

The initiative is carried out by 14 sub-divisional squads, each assigned to a specific sub-division, and supported by 20 squads from the Khatla, planning, administration, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Traffic Branch headquarters. The responsibility for overseeing these activities rests with police inspectors, ensuring that the initiative is implemented every Thursday.

To facilitate communication, a WhatsApp group comprising school heads and team leaders has been established. Following the informative sessions, students are given a dedicated 15-minute window to privately share their concerns with police officers. This interactive approach allows the police to address individual student issues and build trust within the community.

The initiative has garnered an enthusiastic response from students, reaching approximately 13,000 students thus far. Furthermore, the police plan to distribute books to students as part of their commitment to enhancing education and fostering positive engagement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bapu Bangar, emphasized the success of the initiative, stating, “One Day for School is receiving a spontaneous response from students, and it is a significant step toward creating a safer and more informed community.”
