Pune Metro Extension: Proposal to Connect Ramwadi–Wagholi Line up to Alandi Under Study
Pune, 2nd September 2025: With the Union government approving the construction of a Metro corridor between Ramwadi and Wagholi, discussions are now underway to stretch the route further up to Alandi in order to strengthen transport links in the eastern parts of the city. Officials said that a feasibility study on the proposed extension is likely to begin soon.
While the current plan already includes a line up to Vishrantwadi, civic representatives are pushing for its continuation to Alandi, which lies around 20 km from Pune.
BJP MP from Pune, Murlidhar Mohol, said on Sunday during his Janta Darbar interaction in Vishrantwadi that he had recently spoken to Maha Metro officials about the idea. “Alandi is a major pilgrimage destination. Extending Metro services to this town will not only benefit devotees but also improve overall connectivity for people in the surrounding areas,” Mohol stated.
Local residents, who have been demanding better public transport for years due to rapid urbanisation and rising commercial activity, have welcomed the move.
Former corporator Anil Tingre, who has consistently advocated for a Metro link to Alandi, stressed that the route could also serve as an important connector between Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. He added that it would enhance access to Lohegaon airport as well. Tingre said he had earlier urged authorities to modify the design of the ongoing flyover and grade separator project at Vishrantwadi Chowk so that it does not clash with the proposed Metro alignment. “We suggested certain design changes to accommodate the Metro line smoothly and avoid confusion later. Several meetings with MP Mohol and civic officials have been held on this issue,” Tingre explained.
