Pune Metro Line 3 establishes a well-equipped colony at Tathawade for its workers
Pune, 29th April 2022: Work on projects like Metro Rail is not limited to the urban development of a city but also contributes to a capable and strong nation building. The construction of metro projects provides easy, fast and affordable public transport to all sections of the society. The Tata Group has set up a well-equipped residential colony at Tathawade to house the workers who have been instrumental in the construction of the metro.
The work of Pune Metro Line 3 on Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route has been undertaken by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle company of Tata Group on the basis of Public Private Partnership (PPP) from PMRDA. Under this, Tata Projects Limited (TPL) has been appointed as the contractor for the construction of Pune Metro Line 3.
TPL Company has set up a labour colony at Tathawade Casting Yard for the workers who are actively involved in the work of Pune Metro Line 3. The colony is not in the form of mere Nissen Hut or temporary sheds but has been built in a neat and well-equipped colony in line with the social commitment and principles of the Tata group.
The labour colony which has been constructed in the form of concrete construction that can accommodate total 700 workers in its full capacity. The workers have been provided with adequate facilities for shelter, rest and meals at this colony. A well equipped kitchen has been constructed here for the meals of the workers working on the project. In order to take care of the health of the workers, attention is also being paid to the sanitation and wastewater planning.
“Our workers are working tirelessly to ensure that the project is completed on time and in the best possible way. The company has provided quiet and safe shelter to the labour. We adhere to the policy of non-compromise on safety, hygiene and health at all stages of the project, ” Said, Mr. Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer, Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited.
Two MD doctors have been appointed 24 hours a day to provide immediate attention to the medical needs of the workers. These doctors are staying with the workers in the same colony and taking care of the health of the workers in two shifts. On the backdrop of COVID 19 pandemic TPL arranged a free vaccination camp at the labour colony for all its workers. Currently 350 workers are residing here. And as the work of Pune Metro Line 3 is getting bigger and bigger, the number of workers is expected to increase accordingly.
