Pune Metro Line-3 Shivajinagar To Hinjawadi To Benefit 4 Lakh Commuters: Minister

Pune, 5th October 2023: In a significant development aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune, the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, announced that the Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar Pune Metro Line-3 will benefit around 4 lakh commuters. The minister made this statement during a review meeting held at Pune Airport.

The meeting was attended by key officials including Rahul Mahiwal, Commissioner of Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA); Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation; Alok Kapoor, Chief Executive Officer of Pune IT City Metro Rail; and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar.

Kapoor provided an overview of the metro route, stating that the Maan-Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar line is approximately 24 km long and features 23 stations, 16 of which are currently under construction. The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 8,313 crores.

According to a survey, about 1.4 lakh citizens commute on this route daily. The line will also enable commuters to change routes at Shivajinagar and Civil Court, thereby connecting them to other parts of the city via Mahametro service. Kapoor revealed that 45% of the project has been completed so far.

Minister Patil expressed satisfaction over the progress of Pune Metro route-3 and assured that all necessary cooperation would be provided at the government level to expedite the project. He also emphasized the need for additional facilities like parking and bus services to metro stations to increase citizen engagement.

The minister highlighted that the first phase of Mahametro has received a positive response and that efforts are underway to provide PMPML bus service from homes to metro stations. He believes that reducing the time taken to reach metro stations and providing parking facilities will further boost the project’s success.
