Hinjawadi, 20th September 2025: The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has appealed to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to begin partial operations of the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro line, instead of waiting for the entire 23-km corridor to be ready by March next year.

In a letter addressed to PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, FITE suggested that the Hinjewadi Phase 3 to Baner section — covering about 13 km — should be opened at the earliest. The association noted that this stretch has achieved significant construction progress and is undergoing trial runs.

FITE Maharashtra president Pavanjit Mane and secretary Prashant Pandit, who signed the appeal, emphasized that delaying operations until the full line is complete would ignore the immediate commuting difficulties faced by thousands of IT professionals.

“The commute here is far from smooth due to severe congestion,” Mane said, pointing out that Baner IT Park alone employs an estimated 1.5 to 2 lakh professionals within a 2-km radius. He added that the initial 13-km section from PMR 1 (Hinjawadi Phase 3) to PMR 13 (Baner) could bring immediate relief to daily travelers if opened without delay.

FITE stressed that an early launch of the Hinjawadi–Baner stretch would not only ease traffic woes but also demonstrate tangible progress in the city’s metro expansion.
