Pune: Midnight Vandalism in Kondhwa; Masked Juveniles Smash Parked Vehicles, Three Detained
Kondhwa, 23rd August 2025: Panic gripped the Mithanagar area of Kondhwa late Saturday night after a masked group vandalized multiple parked vehicles. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when three to four youths, reportedly wearing face coverings, arrived on motorcycles and began smashing vehicle windows with sharp weapons.
According to the FIR filed by Atiq Ahmed Shaikh (48), a rickshaw driver residing in Mithanagar, he had parked his rickshaw outside his home before going to sleep. Around 1:30 a.m., he heard commotion outside and saw a group shouting and attacking vehicles. The assailants shattered the windshield of his rickshaw and damaged its frame. They also smashed the windows of a Maruti car owned by Mirza Sami, along with two more rickshaws and another car in the neighborhood.
Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar of Kondhwa Police Station confirmed that the attack stemmed from a minor quarrel among local youths. “The group of four took out their anger on vehicles parked in a different lane. Three of the accused are minors and have been detained; the fourth is absconding,” Patankar stated.
No major injuries were reported in the incident. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 324(4), 324(5), 411, 25 of the Arms Act, and section 7 of the Maharashtra Property Damage Act.
Further investigation is underway to trace the fourth suspect and ascertain whether there were any other motives behind the vandalism.
