Shivajinagar, 8th May 2024: COEP Tech University has taken decisive action following reports from several female students residing in its hostel, initiating both an internal inquiry and filing a police complaint in response to the alleged misconduct.

According to students, a girl from second year was caught red-handed for making videos of girls changing their clothes in their rooms, walking in the hostel campus, and on the stairs. She was then sending all these videos to her friend living outside. Girls from the hostel had known about this for a long time, but no one had the courage to inform the police or even the hostel authorities. The warden allegedly instructed the victims not to inform their parents. If they did, their parents would not allow them to live in the hostel or would take some other action.

In an official statement released on Tuesday evening, COEP Tech University addressed the issue, stating, “Several female students lodged a formal complaint against one of their roommates, who allegedly took unauthorized photos of them and shared them with an external party without their consent.”

The university reiterated its commitment to fostering a safe, respectful, and trustworthy environment for all members of its community. “In line with this commitment, COEP has taken swift and firm action by lodging a police complaint,” the statement read. “Given the seriousness of the allegations, a high-level internal inquiry committee has been established to thoroughly investigate the incident.”

Registrar of COEP Tech University, D N Sonawane, affirmed the university’s stance, stating, “The accused student has been barred from the hostel premises, and she has been temporarily suspended from the university pending the outcome of the inquiry. COEP remains steadfast in its dedication to upholding a campus culture that prioritizes safety and respect, enabling all individuals to pursue their academic and personal endeavors without fear of harassment or misconduct.”
