Pune: Mohammadwadi Residents Demand Safety Measures After Midnight Assault
Mohammadwadi, 8th May 2024: In a disturbing incident, youths were involved in a violent attack on two individuals over a trivial dispute outside Ganga Kingston Society in Mohammadwadi, Pune, late last night. The brazenness of the assailants has left citizens appalled, with many expressing concerns over the lack of fear of the law among such individuals.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place in the dead of night, sending shockwaves through the neighbourhood. Residents are now calling for the immediate closure of two cafes operating in the vicinity, which reportedly remain open until 4 am with the tacit approval of the Kondhwa police station.
Residents allege that these cafes have become hotspots for criminal and antisocial elements, including drug addicts, who frequent the area and pose a constant threat to the safety and well-being of women, children, and other locals.
Demanding swift action, residents have called for the filing of FIRs against all those involved in the violent altercation. Additionally, they have urged authorities to conduct regular night patrols to apprehend hardcore criminals, particularly in the vicinity opposite the main gate of Ganga Florentina Society.

A resident said, “Well, it’s no surprise given the type of individuals who frequent this area. It’s become a gathering place for vagabonds, drug addicts, and the lost souls of society. These videos should be shown to aspiring corporators, MLAs, and MPs. Maybe then they’ll understand the reality of this area.”
Another resident added, “It’s been over two years of consistently raising these issues with the police, but nothing ever changes. Neither politicians nor the society seem to take this matter seriously. It’s supposed to be one of the best residential areas.”
An elderly woman said, “We can keep sharing these issues, but I doubt anything will change. The people running these establishments are powerful and influential. We might as well just look away and ignore it because this seems like it’s here to stay.”
She added, “I’ve witnessed hotel owners chatting with the police every time they visit, and then they’re handed a bag of food before the police leave. Once they’re gone, everything goes back to how it was before. It’s like a well-oiled machine.”
