Pune: MNS Protest Turns Aggressive As English Signage Targeted At Shops On JM Road

Shivajinagar, 1st December 2023: Following the expiration of the Supreme Court’s deadline for installing Marathi boards, a wave of aggressive actions against English signage has been witnessed across Maharashtra.
A protest led by Sainath Babar, the Pune city president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), targeted hotels and shops on Jungli Maharaj Road (JM Road), resulting in the vandalization of boards through stone-throwing.
Babar explained that the MNS has been consistently protesting against English language boards outside shops and hotels for several years, following the directives of MNS President Raj Thackeray. The court acknowledged their stance, and in response to the Supreme Court’s deadline for installing Marathi boards, the MNS organized a protest after the stipulated time frame lapsed. Babar emphasized that this protest marks the beginning of a series of agitations, cautioning that future demonstrations will be more intense.
