Pune, June 12, 2020: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune has predicted moderate rainfall throughout the next week in Pune city/district. Around 1.5 to 6.4 cms rainfall per day has been predicted,” said Anupam Kashyapi, Head of Weather, IMD Pune.

At the same time, the ghat areas in the district have also been warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. Considering the same, the IMD has offered their support to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for specialised location-specific forecasts.

Meanwhile, Kashyapi informed that the Southwest Monsoon covered more parts of Central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Friday. “Conditions are favourable for the further advance of monsoon in the remaining parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai), so in the next 48 hours, that is by June 14 (latest by June 15), the whole state will be covered by the Southwest Monsoon,” the Head of Weather stated.

Earlier on Friday, IFLOWS-Mumbai, an integrated flood warning system for Mumbai was launched by the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The system has been designed to give alerts of possible flood-prone areas around six to 72 hours in advance.
