Pune: Mohol Proposes 1,000 E-Buses For PMPML, Aiming For Sustainable Urban Transport

Pune, 15th October 2024: As the election code of conduct comes into effect for the Maharashtra assembly elections, the state government is making notable decisions to appeal to voters. In a significant development for Pune, Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol met with Union Minister for Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy today to propose the addition of 1,000 electric buses for the city.
With the expansion of the metro network underway, Mohol emphasized the need to bolster the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) services. The proposal for acquiring the new e-buses was discussed in detail, including the current number of buses in Pune, their operational requirements, and future needs. Minister Kumaraswamy instructed his officials to take prompt action on the proposal.
Mohol tweeted, “Since the Modi government took office in 2014, there has been a concerted effort towards comprehensive and planned development in Pune. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the Pune Metro was launched to enhance public transport. The recently operational Pune metro lines along with the foundation stone laid for the Swargate-Katraj underground line, are testament to this development. Furthermore, the state government has approved two additional phases extending from Khadakwasla to Kharadi and Nalstop to Manikbagh.”
Mohol highlighted the continuous empowerment of PMPML through initiatives from the Modi government, noting that the city has already received over 450 e-buses. “As the metro network strengthens, the proposed addition of 1,000 e-buses will significantly enhance PMPML’s capacity, providing efficient and timely public transport for the residents of Pune,” he stated.
He expressed confidence that the proposal would be acted upon swiftly, leading to a positive decision for the city’s transportation future.
