Pune: Morya Gosavi Temple Flooded as Heavy Rains Batter Pimpri-Chinchwad
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 19th June 2025: Continuous torrential rains since midnight have severely disrupted daily life across Pimpri-Chinchwad, with river levels rising and traffic coming to a standstill in several low-lying areas. One of the most significant impacts of the downpour was seen at the historic Morya Gosavi Samadhi Mandir in Chinchwad Gaon, where waters from the overflowing Pavana River entered the temple premises.
The unrelenting rainfall has caused the Pavana and Indrayani rivers to swell, breaching their usual bounds and flooding surrounding areas. The Morya Gosavi Mandir, a revered pilgrimage site on the riverbank, was inundated by floodwater, prompting concern among devotees and local residents.
Flooding has also been reported in other areas like the Kejubahai Temple in Thergaon. Major roads across Bhosari, Chinchwad, Pimpri, Nashik Phata, Pimple Saudagar, Ravet, Wakad, Bhumkar Chowk, Pradhikaran, and Nigdi witnessed heavy waterlogging, leading to long traffic snarls and inconvenience for commuters. Poor drainage in several parts of the city further aggravated the situation, with rainwater stagnating on internal and arterial roads.
Officials have noted that the Pavana Dam, which supplies drinking water to the region, recorded 87 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours, pushing its water stock to 37 %. The Andra Dam currently holds 44.85 %of its capacity.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey issued a public advisory urging people living near riverbanks to exercise extreme caution. “Avoid visiting riverbanks, bridges, or ghats as the water flow is dangerously strong. Do not attempt to cross submerged bridges and refrain from stepping out unless necessary,” he said. He also assured that emergency services are on alert and advised citizens to dial 112 for any assistance.
