Pune: MP Medha Kulkarni Flags Violations at RMC Plants, Seeks Crackdown along Sinhagad Road
Pune, 11th April 2026: Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni on Saturday inspected multiple Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants along Sinhagad Road and called for stringent action against units allegedly operating in violation of norms.
During her visit, Kulkarni flagged several irregularities, including failure to comply with environmental regulations, widespread dust pollution from cement handling, and traffic congestion caused by heavy vehicles ferrying ready mix concrete.
She said residents in the area have raised repeated complaints about cement dust entering their homes, posing health risks, especially to children and senior citizens. Many locals have reported respiratory and eye-related problems.
Residents also pointed out that spillage of cement from transit mixers and dumpers has worsened air quality and increased the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders.
Kulkarni alleged that several RMC plants were functioning without adhering to mandatory environmental safeguards. She questioned the civic administration over selective action, noting that while two plants were shut earlier, others continue to operate without clear justification.
The inspection also revealed that some of the vehicles transporting cement lacked number plates and had pending fines for traffic violations.
The MP urged the authorities to immediately shut down illegal units, initiate strict action against those flouting norms, and relocate such plants to prevent further environmental damage and ensure the safety of residents.
