Pune: MP Shrirang Barne Urges State Government to Transfer Tathawade Land for Central Park

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 8th May 2025: Maval MP Shrirang Barne from Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena has formally requested the Maharashtra government to transfer 65 hectares of Animal Husbandry Department Land in Tathawade to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for the creation of a Central Park, citing the urgent need for large green spaces in the rapidly expanding city. Barne submitted his demand to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, highlighting that Tathawade’s central location and abundance of trees make it ideal for a major urban park.
“Tathawade is at the heart of Pimpri-Chinchwad, and with the city’s rapid growth and high-rise developments, a large park is essential for residents’ health and well-being,” Barne said. He emphasized that the reserved land, dating back to the British era, would not only preserve existing trees but also provide much-needed open space along the Pavana River, benefiting citizens with clean air and recreational facilities. “If a Central Park is developed here, it will become a vital hub for morning walks, leisure, and a dedicated space for senior citizens,” he added.
Barne also noted the proximity of the Thergaon Boat Club and the potential for the park to become a citywide attraction, urging the state to act swiftly on the transfer. As Pimpri-Chinchwad continues to see major infrastructure projects and new residential developments, the proposal for a Central Park in Tathawade is gaining momentum among local leaders and citizens seeking sustainable urban growth.
