Pune, 1st November 2025: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has levied an Environmental Damage Compensation (EDC) of ₹29.68 lakh on a ready-mix concrete (RMC) plant located in Vadgaon Budruk, Pune. The penalty follows directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Western Zone Bench, which had earlier criticized the board for its slow response to pollution complaints and health issues linked to the plant’s dust and emissions.

Acting in accordance with the NGT’s order issued in July 2025, the MPCB submitted an affidavit outlining how the damages were calculated. The assessment was based on the formula prescribed by the tribunal, factoring in the pollution index, duration of violations, scale of operations, and the location’s environmental sensitivity.

The RMC facility, operated by M/s Ashtech Pvt. Ltd., is currently shut down. The tribunal is expected to examine the MPCB’s computation of the fine before taking the next steps in enforcement.
