Pune, 9th March 2023: According to MSEDCL, a total of Rs 1188 crore must be recovered for the streetlight programme, and in the Pune division, Rs 420 crore must still be retrieved from the water supply departments.

As the public utility waits to recover over Rs 1,950 crore from various government colleges in the Pune region, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation (MSEDCL) has appealed to the government institutes in the Pune division to settle their unpaid bills. The MSEDCL has stated in an official announcement that the department in charge of managing streetlights is the source of a significant portion of the outstanding bills in the Pune area.

This covers the Zilla Parishads, Sangli, Satara, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and other municipal corporations in the Pune division that have unpaid invoices, as well as other pertinent institutions in these areas. According to MSEDCL’s official statistics, a total of Rs 1,188 crore is still owed for the use of lamps in the area. Due to the public water supply scheme’s outstanding recovery of Rs 420 crore, the water supply department also leads the list of unpaid invoices. The Pune region is still waiting on the recovery of a total of Rs 170 crore from family users, Rs 54 crore from commercial consumers, and Rs 82 crore from industrial consumers.

The two departments are responsible for more than 70% of the area’s unpaid electrical bills. Because it is increasing the utility’s financial load, the MSEDCL is having trouble controlling things. Officials claim that to improve customer service, the department is being obliged to switch off the power to clients who have not paid their bills.
