Pune 4th Sept 2023: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation Limited (MSRTC) cancelled buses between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar route following a protest reported in Jalna district of the state over Maratha reservation demand. As a result, thousands of passengers remained stranded at the MSRTC depots across various ST stands between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

It may be noted that the protestors in Jalna district set multiple MSRTC buses on fire while demonstrating against the state government over lathicharge on the members of the Maratha community who were staging hunger strike in Jalna district to demand reservation for the community. The incident led to widespread violence at multiple locations across the state.

According to MSRTC officials, over 600 buses were cancelled after the incident fearing vandalism by the protestors. This also affected the buses that travel to multiple other districts of Marathwada as the MSRTC also had halt operations to these locations. According to officials, around 15,000 passengers travel in MSRTC buses on this route every day from Pune district. However, due to absence of MSRTC buses the passengers are forced to use private vehicles to travel.
