Pune: Mumbai Men Caught Betting on IPL Match in Lonavala, 1.5 Lakh Seized

Lonavala, 21st April 2023: Two men from Mumbai have been arrested for allegedly betting on an IPL match between Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants.

The local crime branch of Pune rural police acted on a tip-off and raided a rented bungalow in Tungarli village near Lonavala, where the two men were staying. The suspects have been identified as Rajveen Singh Manjit Singh Banga (28) and Maskin Singh Rajendra Singh Arora (30) from Antop Hill in Mumbai.

Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal said that the police had seized Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, seven mobile phones, laptops, and other materials from the suspects. The police were able to foil the betting operation thanks to a well-coordinated effort by Superintendent of Police Ankit Goyal, Additional Superintendent Mitesh Ghatte, Sub Divisional Police Officer Satyasai Karthik, Local Crime Branch Police Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, and others.

The police were alerted to the betting operation by Inspector Avinash Shilimkar, who received information that two individuals from Mumbai were planning to place bets on the IPL match. The police team acted swiftly and raided bungalow number three in Nisarga Bungalow Society, where the suspects were staying. Both were immediately taken into custody and charged with illegal gambling under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
