Pune: Youth Survives Fall Into Ravine At Khandala Ghat, Rescued By Emergency Teams

Lonavala, 21st April 2023: Emergency teams from Lonavala, Khopoli, and Maval worked together to rescue a young man who fell into a deep ravine at Monkey Hill in Khandala Ghat on Thursday night.

The youth, Harishchandra Mandal, 25, a resident of Odisha and currently living in Goa, had come to Lonavala area on Thursday for tourism and climbing.

After visiting various tourist spots, Mandal went to the Monkey Point area in Khandala Ghat. While walking back after dark, around 7:30 pm, he slipped and fell into a deep ravine. Luckily, he caught a branch of a tree in the valley, saving his life.

After bravely recovering himself, Mandal contacted the autorickshaw driver who he had hired earlier and asked for help. The rickshaw driver immediately informed the Lonavla city police, who alerted the Shivdurg Mitra team in Lonavala. The team invited the wildlife protection organization of Maval and the accident victims’ relief organization of Khopoli for help.

The emergency teams quickly arrived at the site and started relief work. With the help of a rope, the rescue team descended and comforted Mandal. After putting on a safety kit, Mandal was pulled out safely at around 1:30 am in the darkness of the night. He was given first aid and handed over to the Lonavala city police.

Fortunately, Mandal only suffered minor injuries and was released after receiving medical attention. The successful rescue mission showcased the effective coordination and quick response of the emergency teams from the three talukas.
