Pune, 25th May 2023: Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Speaker, Dr Neelam Gorhe, has issued a written instruction to the Principal Secretary of Urban Development and the Pune Municipal Commissioner, calling for an immediate halt to the construction of 250 poles on Vetal Hill.

Dr Gorhe emphasized the importance of conducting a detailed hearing to address objections raised by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding the Balbharti to Paud Phata Link Road before any further work is carried out. In her letter, she directed the authorities not to proceed with tree cutting or any other activities on the hill until the objections are thoroughly examined.

The ongoing project involves the construction of the Balbharti to Paud Phata link road, which necessitates the installation of 250 concrete poles on Vetal Hill. However, in compliance with court instructions received on April 25th, Dr Gorhe has taken the initiative to involve environmental protection organizations in Pune city and consider their objections seriously.

In light of these developments, Dr Gorhe has instructed the relevant authorities to refrain from any further work until the objections have been heard and resolved. A report on the actions taken in response to these instructions is also expected to be submitted.
