Pune, 30th January 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that 90% of the road repair works under ‘Mission 15’ have been completed, aiming to improve traffic flow in the city. The Road Department has stated that no further digging permissions will be granted on these newly repaired roads.

PMC initiated ‘Mission 15’ to repair 15 major roads in the city that see the highest traffic. The project covered 92 kilometres of roads, with 60,772 square meters of asphalting completed. Approximately 11,143 metric tons of asphalt were used in the process. Thermoplastic paint was used at important intersections for better durability.

Chief Engineer (Road) Aniruddha Pawaskar, stated that these repairs would reduce traffic delays and provide relief to motorists. The initiative came after a meeting between Central and State Ministers, BJP MLAs, and the PMC Commissioner, where concerns were raised about the poor condition of city roads.

As part of the project, the PMC scraped and resurfaced roads, repaired and painted footpaths, fixed drainage chambers, and removed speed breakers causing traffic congestion. The Road Department and Pune Traffic Police jointly surveyed the roads to identify and remove obstacles to traffic flow. Additionally, 509 drainage chamber covers across the city were levelled to prevent accidents and discomfort to citizens.

Pawaskar added that 32 roads with the highest daily usage were initially selected, with the first phase of 15 roads nearing completion. The remaining 17 roads will be addressed in the second phase.

The completed roads include major arteries such as Nagar Road, Solapur Road, Magarpatta Road, Pashan Road, Baner Road, and Karve Road, among others. This initiative is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and road safety in Pune, addressing long-standing issues of poor road conditions and traffic congestion.
