Pune, 8th May 2023: Pune, a city of cultural significance and natural beauty, has taken a novel step towards controlling the breeding of mosquitoes. A remarkable use of technology has been witnessed, as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has employed drones to spray insecticides around the serene Katraj lake.

This novel initiative comes as a breakthrough in mosquito control measures, as the authorities seek to curb the prevalence of dengue and chikungunya, which have been a persistent menace in the city.

In an attempt to tackle the challenge more effectively, the use of drones has been adopted, marking a first-of-its-kind event in Pune. With an extensive range and superior coverage capacity, drones are expected to control mosquito breeding in a shorter span of time, compared to the traditional methods of fumigation, which can be tedious and time-consuming.

The use of drones for mosquito control has been a successful venture in other countries as well. The cities of Rio de Janeiro and Florida have also embraced this technology, and have reported favorable outcomes. The use of drones for mosquito control measures is an innovative way to reduce human intervention, which can be a hassle, particularly in areas that are challenging to reach.
