Pune, 3rd August 2023: A stern warning was issued during today’s meeting, urging the immediate completion of pothole-filling work across the city by August 9. The junior engineers of the Road Department were directly cautioned that action would be taken against them if the deadline is not met. Priority will be given to minor roads connecting with the 92-km long major 15 roads, which witness the highest traffic volume.

Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner, Vikas Dhakne, presided over the meeting with Road Department officials to review the city’s road repair progress. The heavy rainfall in July has resulted in potholes appearing throughout the city’s roads.

To address this issue, the Municipal Corporation is striving to fill the potholes using Hotmix, Coldmix, and Murum. However, due to the ongoing rains, the pothole-filling work needs to be expedited. Unfortunately, the Hotmix plant at Yerwada, owned by the Municipal Corporation, is currently closed, posing a significant hindrance to the process.

During the meeting, Additional Commissioner Dhakne instructed the Executive Engineers to promptly fill potholes at intersections where main roads meet connecting roads within their respective jurisdictions. Furthermore, a list of 15 important roads in the city, experiencing heavy traffic, has been compiled. The repair work on these roads must be completed by August 9 to alleviate traffic congestion caused by potholes. The meeting emphasized that action would be taken against the junior engineers responsible for these roads if potholes persist after the deadline.

Vikas Dhakne, Additional Commissioner of PMC, stated, “Today, the pothole-filling progress in the city was reviewed, and the responsibility for each road has been assigned to the respective Junior Engineer. If potholes are found on the roads after August 9, action will be taken against the concerned junior engineer.”

Hotmix Plant Closure
Unfortunately, the Municipal Corporation’s Hotmix plant experienced a bearing failure, and its expected reopening was delayed until Thursday night due to ongoing repair work. Consequently, no progress could be made in pothole-filling during the day. As a temporary measure, pits are being filled by sourcing materials from the contractor.
